About Us

About your Captain

My name is Captain Thomas Gougherty, a proud Jupiter native who has been immersed in fishing adventures since childhood. From chasing bass in freshwater lakes to battling sailfish offshore, I’ve explored various fishing opportunities all over Florida and beyond. My true passion lies in skinny water sight fishing for snook and redfish, where precision and patience are key. I've traveled the world to fish—from the flats of Mexico to the coast of Africa—learning invaluable techniques from some of the best guides along the way. With my experience working on sportfishing boats, I now run my own vessel, ensuring every trip reflects the same attention to detail and professionalism. As a U.S. Coast Guard licensed and insured captain, I prioritize skill and safety on every journey, including those dedicated to light tackle fishing and fly fishing. Beyond fishing, I’m passionate about the outdoors in every form, from birdwatching to exploring native wildlife, always ready to guide others as a dedicated Jupiter fishing guide.

Sight Fishing

Sight Fishing: What It Means

Sight fishing is a technique where anglers visually locate fish before casting, rather than relying on blind casts or waiting for a bite. By spotting fish in clear or shallow water, anglers can observe their behavior—whether they’re feeding, cruising, or resting—and make a precise, targeted cast.

This method is commonly used in shallow flats, clear lakes, rivers, and coastal environments where visibility is high. Because it depends on vision, stealth, and accuracy, sight fishing offers a more active and engaging experience compared to traditional fishing methods.

In simple terms, sight fishing means seeing the fish first—and then catching it.

Why the Right Boat and Gear Matter

Because sight fishing relies so heavily on visibility and precision, having the right setup can make all the difference. A properly equipped boat allows you to navigate shallow waters quietly, maintain a stable vantage point, and get within casting range without spooking fish.

Equally important is your gear. Polarized sunglasses help cut glare and improve visibility beneath the surface, while the right rods, reels, and tackle ensure accurate casts and better control when targeting specific fish. From stealthy approaches to pinpoint presentations, the right equipment turns opportunities into successful catches.
